OUR HISTORY

Fiberspar's spoolable fiber-reinforced pipe business was formed in 1997 to provide the oil and gas industry with a family of products to address the market requirements for a reliable, corrosion-resistant, cost-effective solution for tubulars used during the production and transportation of oil and gas.

The company was originally founded in 1986 by Mr. Peter Quigley as a spin-off of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. By 1989, Fiberspar had proved the base technology of producing continuous fiber-reinforced products in high performance sporting goods applications. More than 10 million feet of patented high strength tubing was used in sporting goods applications to win world and America’s Cup sailing championships, as well as National Hockey League scoring titles.

From 1993 to 1995, Fiberspar and Conoco, Inc., a multi-billion dollar global energy business, worked together to develop the basic spoolable pipe technology for application in the oil industry by leveraging Conoco's industry knowledge combined with Fiberspar's core technologies in composite design and manufacturing.

In 1996, Fiberspar acquired from Conoco all of their background intellectual property in this technology, and then entered into a joint development with Halliburton Energy Services, the world's largest oil service company, to develop a broader range of products.

In 2000, Fiberspar sold its sporting goods division to focus solely on becoming a leading oil field service company based on Fiberspar’s patented spoolable pipe technology. Between 2000 and 2010, more than 25 million feet of LinePipe has been installed for more than 250 leading oil and gas producers, and Fiberspar has become the leading supplier of spoolable fiber-reinforced pipelines used in the in field gathering market.

The company's corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility is located in Houston, Texas, with sales and distribution offices near every major oilfield in the USA and Canada.
